I traversed the aisles of Asian markets with a friend's Vietnamese mom, who had fled the VC, delving into the nuances of rice, shrimp, and the magic of fish sauce. From a Mexican friend's mother, I learned the art of grilling green onions, crafting sopes, and the importance of using the freshest ingredients. A neighbor's mom visiting from Mumbai shared the secrets of preparing a perfect curry, and my mother-in-law, a refugee from Afghanistan, imparted the intricacies of Afghan cuisine.
For two decades, I've been crafting Afghan dishes, not just as a culinary expression but as a connection to my husband’s roots. Cooking this cuisine, for me, is a cultural bridge that ties my children to their heritage.
